2011 Southampton Boat Show a huge success

The Southampton Boat Show was a huge success again in 2011 with thousands of people attending the biggest event of its kind in the UK.

Princess Anne attended on September 20^th when she named the new yacht of Hampshire ocean sailor Mike Golding.

The yacht, named Gamesa, is the one Mike hopes will help him win the Vendee Globe Round the World Yacht Race; arguably the toughest race of them all.

The champagne bottle failed to break on the first occasion, which is traditionally a bad omen.

But Mike didn’t mind, saying he was proud that his new Yacht had been officially named by the Princess Royal.
